Everyone has heard of sustainable development but not many people can explain what it actually mean. The best explanation that I have heard is by Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director of The Earth Institute, Director of the UN Millennium Project and Special Advisor to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on the Millennium Development Goals, and the author of the book, The End of Poverty.

At the State of the Planet 06 conference, he explains what is sustainable development and whether it is feasible. In a nutshell, sustainable development is the merging of the two concepts of improved material conditions and environmental sustainability. View his presentation video here.
